While you are pregnant, everyone makes sure that everything is ready for the baby. Baby shower gifts are full of diapers, onesies, and bouncers. Of course you want your baby to be taken care of, but very few people buy the Mother products to help her in postpartum recovery and self-care.

Once you get to the hospital and meet your newborn baby, you are handed a postpartum kit filled with lanolin nipple cream, dermoplast for pain, cold pads for inflammation, and mesh underwear. Since no one took the time and care to offer you something different, you accept the kit, use it in the hospital, and take it home.

You assume that whatever the nurses hand to you, are going to have your best interest and healing in mind. Surprisingly, this is far from the truth…

Dermoplast actually has a warning to not use on open wounds (eek!), plus the relief only lasts for about 5 minutes.

Lansinoh nipple cream is made out of Lanolin, a.k.a sheep wool oil (yuck!)

The cold pads help with inflammation, but have no healing properties.

“So Kyra, what are better alternatives??” I hear you asking. These are your alternatives…

Use a Boob Balm with Avocado Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, and Beeswax. These ingredients will restore moisture to dry nipples and bring down painful inflammation. Try out our Boob Balm Here.

Instead of Dermoplast only Cold Pads, use a product with Centella- to bring down inflammation and give lasting relief, and Chamomile- to heal and close up wounds. Check out our Herbal Relief Body Mist.

I created these products because I believe that as mothers we deserve better, because a Mother’s care should never be an afterthought.
